The Salad Recipe

Starting a blog is full of hopes and promise.  Even if it's your third one.  Yes, attempt number three... third time's a charm?  We shall find out.

All previous attempts at being fly and having a blog have failed because I continuously rope myself into a niche.  First I was going to write about a favorite cartoon from my childhood, but imagine the characters all grown up to my present university-age.  Good idea, in theory.  However, FAIL.  I didn't even make one post.  The second blog attempt was about quotes, entitled "Quotes McGotes".  Kind of suited me, as I like to quote movies and think about random things I hear in class, etc.  But eventually even when I wanted to write, I couldn't because I didn't have some random quote to write about.  Niche.  Niche, niche, NICHE!  With Blog Salad I feel I have successfully ditched the niche and am headed into a wonderful open field of topics.  Hooray!

Below is a recipe my blog designer used to fill my temporary first post.  Fitting, as it is a recipe for a salad, so it shall stay.  I may also toss in a random recipe every now and then, since I CAN!  (NOTE: the "toss" in that last sentence wasn't supposed to be a pun (as in toss salad), however for future punny reference I will italicize those which are intended.)  Enjoy!

Strawberry Spinach Salad
Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 10 ounces fresh spinach - rinsed, dried and torn into bite-size pieces
  • 1 quart strawberries - cleaned, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup almonds, blanched and slivered

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, paprika, Worcestershire sauce and onion. Cover, and chill for one hour.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the spinach, strawberries and almonds. Pour dressing over salad, and toss. Refrigerate 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

Note: This comment is in no way a accurate representation of of "writing skills" as mentioned by my BFF.

Even if the above was a perfect representation of your writing skills, it would still be written well and enjoyable to read :P

I have always had an interest in the blogging world, however I have never successful followed through with one. Perhaps the issue hasn't been my inability to write about things happening around me but more so that I continue to find myself in a niche, only allowing myself to post about quotes or something. This blog is my attempt to remove any form of niche: Blog Salad - pretty much everything in the cupboards and refrigerator..
